Historical society in Alabama finds a new location

GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — The Etowah Historic Society will move to a new spot in Rainbow Metropolis as ideas are in place to tear down its most current house, the Elliott Local community Heart in Gadsden.

Commenced in 1954, the team is the oldest historic modern society in the condition. It will go to the Rainbow Metropolis Recreation Center. The Etowah Historic Society has been housed at Elliott Group Heart because the 1990s, Gary Garrett, 1st vice president of the team, said. It is a position he mentioned he will overlook.

“It’s a historic developing, a 100-yr-previous college,” Garrett reported. “I went to Emma Sansom Significant Faculty, and many of my classmates went to elementary university there. They continue to notify stories about it when we get together.


“We always anticipated it would materialize someday,” Garrett reported of designs to tear it down. “We are thankful that the Town of Gadsden permit us use that place.”

A senior wellness heart is planned for the website soon after the group middle is demolished.

It took a great deal of get the job done, Garrett stated, to get every little thing out of Elliott in time. It helped that he and a different board member are retired.

“The individuals on the board, like me, we worked our tails off the get out of there on the deadline, and we did make it, on the previous working day,” he explained. “I’m 73, and my buddy (and the Historic Society’s 2nd Vice President) Charles Hawkins is 75, and the two of us packed up and hauled stuff for something like 15 days or more without having a crack.”
